County Parks are the following 11: Whitlock Park, .J. Smith
Park, Andrew Bailey, Grantville Park, Senoia Park, Moreland Park, Sharpsburg Park,
Western Park, Arnco Park, Sargent Park, and B.T. Brown Reservoir. The Coweta County
Recreation and Parks Department offers a variety of recreation opportunities for
young and old alike. Activities offered at these parks are the following: Boys
and Girls Basketball, Acting classes for Preschoolers, Acting classes for Homeschoolers,
Youth Art Classes, Senior Adult Art Classes, Dog Obedience, Baton Classes, Tennis
Lessons, Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Pottery class, and Dancing lessons. Just
38 miles from Newman is the F.D. Roosevelt State Park.
Roosevelt State Park is 9,049 Acres. Facilities include 140 Tents, Trailer
& RV Campsites, Backcountry Campsites, 22 Cottages, 2 Lakes, 2 Picnic Shelters,
Group Shelters, 2 Group Camps, a Pioneer Campground, and Backcountry Campsites.
Visitors to the park enjoy many fun activities such as
Hiking and Backpacking on 37 miles of trails, Hiking on the Pine Mountain Trail,
Fishing and Boating,
Picnicking, Swimming, and Horseback Riding.
One of the many outstanding features of F.D. Roosevelt State
Park is an extensive, well-maintained footpath known as the Pine Mountain Trail.
This west-to-east corridor measures 23 miles. Circling off of that corridor
are six loop trails, which bring the total trail mileage to almost 40 miles.
Along these miles, there are 13 backcountry campsites. The Pine Mountain Trail
offers clear crisp views of distant ridges in winter, with occasional snowfall,
to the lush greens of summer ferns and foliage of lowland flora. Wildflowers
are abundant and spring brings flowering dogwood, native azalea, mountain laurel
and rhododendron. Fall brings bright and beautiful colors, changing from day
